A friend of mine pointed out that I didn’t explain anything about the differences when mailing a card or letter with a wax seal which was a very good point! So I thought I’d take some time today to go over that as well as a number of other ways the wonderful folks of the interwebs use their stamps.
First, when sending a card or letter with a wax seal you’ll need to take it to the post office in person. There is a 40 cent upcharge for manual handling/sorting of anything too lumpy to slide through the machines that sort bills and non specialty cards. If you try putting it in the mail with additional postage but skip the trip to the PO it may or may not make it. I’ve had some quilted cards returned to me because of sequins or a button, but some have made it albeit with a 7-10 day delay.

But how else might you use this stamp should you buy one or have one customized? One idea that’s pretty fun and easy is embossing tempered chocolate! This gentleman gives a fantastic demonstration. From the looks of his video he has more than one trick up his sleeve! Check him out!
I made this wobbly video with one hand this afternoon to show you my own wax seals of different thicknesses and a few colors so you could see how durable the waxes are even at their thinnest. I apologize for the wobbles.
There are numerous other ways folks use these. The photos below were not taken by me.

I’ve seen folks seal a humble white paper bag with a wax seal and baking twine.

So how about as a kid craft for a party? You could put them on party hats or favors, and if it’s a little girl princess party you might even make a charm like this. Blanks are widely available on Amazon and in craft stores.

You’ll need a glob of glue for this one; they pop right out of metal.
I used to embroider fabric covered buttons for lanyards/badges people swipe at work. No idea how this would wear with the wax so I’ll try some E6000 and see if it holds.

Own a small business? Looking for a special touch for your packaging from your Etsy store?

I bet there are other ideas out there but this is a good start. I hope you found it interesting or at least fun to think about! And remember, the wax comes in hundreds of colors and the stamps can be customized with your own art or logo or personal insignia. -Dana
