More MOPA for the kitchen and a brass stamp

Hey everybody! Another weekend is at its end; they fly by so quickly. We spent Saturday working on individual projects but are squeezing in some fun with the fiber laser together tonight.

First up, something a bit novel for us in that we had not previously tried engraving anything cylindrical on the fiber laser. My old bench scraper, in keeping with the dough themed engravings from last week, was the perfect candidate for the experiment. The cylindrical part came out great, the design on the flat, which I love, was a bit uneven, which harkens back to the pizza peel last week. We still don’t know why this is happening; if anyone reading this has any insight I’d love to be educated.

I didn’t film the whole process because I don’t want to bore you so, here are the specs and highlights.

Cylindrical engrave +
The word “bread” isn’t smudged, that’s the uneven engraving.

So, one good, one meh, we moved on to a brass wax seal stamp for me. Some of you have been on the receiving end of my quilted cards and my holographic envelope seals. I do love sending fun cards to people so a wax seal is just on another level of fun for me! So off we went, engraving the last of the blanks I bought back in October.

Meowwwww!

It’s going to take some experimentation to find a wax that will release the stamp without ripping an envelope apart. Hell, maybe I’m waiting too long to remove it too. I’ve never had a wax seal stamp before. But here are a few stills.

You can see the wax got too hot
This is a different wax using a glue gun calibrated for wax.

I had some other fun this weekend making rope baskets. I had never made them before but they’re fun and easy; I like projects like this between bigger projects because I can think about the next “thing” while still being productive. I have some ideas percolating.

Cotton rope wrapped in fabric.
Another one, with a peak at a multi colored one by the scissors.
White polypropylene rope with variegated thread.
Using Berta, the Sailrite. She’s a beast.

That’s it from here; I hope to have more fun stuff to show you next week! – Dana

I think your message cut off. I spoke with the post master; he said that there is a 40 cent up charge on them for manual sorting/processing as opposed to the machines they regularly go through. It’s the same as the Halloween cards I sent out a few years ago that had buttons on them. They were sent back to me; I had to take them back and mail them from the counter. In addition to using the stamps on envelopes people use them on wine bottles, ribbons, gift tags made of paper and laser cut/engraved gift tags that recipients end up using as ornaments, on gift boxes, etc. I really should have included this information in the post! Maybe I will show some examples of how they can be used in a future post!

And thanks on the baskets; they’re fun to make ????.
