Brass stamps for wax seals-MOPA fiber laser-and some extras!

Greetings everybody! How are we all doing? I’m immersed in making, hiding from the chaos. Today I bring you beautiful brass carvings; Cameron has (as he always does) really dialed into the fiber laser’s carving capabilities at least as far as brass goes. This is thanks in part to a request by our friend Andrea for stamps for wax seals. I hadn’t even ordered the proper wax for brass stamps and Cameron had already figured it out and was ready to go so we have some pretty sad photos of the seals using white candles and some tattered black card stock. Not my best moment; I plan to follow up with some proper photos but for now, it is what it is.

My apologies for the audio in the middle of this video. I didn’t realize how much interference the laser would cause with the audio (in addition to the vacuum). I should also mention that these stamps are mirrored so they will read left to right when pressed into wax.

He’s so good!
I so wish I had the legit, pretty wax for this photo
1.8mm and 1.6mm depth

And for something totally unrelated but tasty, I’m on a sourdough journey. What started with a gift from my sister has evolved into a full blown obsession…a carb intensive one at that!

Not lasered but, I had to share my sourdough art
Mmmmm

I’m working on my scoring!

And last, Cameron rescued my at least 10 year old Breville Smart Oven Air, the Swiss Army knife of kitchen appliances in one beloved, adorable bundle (yes I love it and you would too if you were a kitchenista) from the jaws of death this weekend. I have used this oven so much (it’s so much faster than our Thermador wall oven) that I wore out one of the parts that allows the door to close. He machined a new part from delrin, a plastic with a broad temperature range tolerance, and put that bad boy in my oven so the door would close. And bonus, he changed the lightbulb! It’s been burned out for years! As someone who grew up with zero handy people in her family I am awed by all Cameron can do with that brain of his. We’ve been together for 19 years and he still wows me. I’m a lucky girl!

Here is the video. You know I had to document it!

Might as well be sorcery to me

That’s all the news in our little corner of the world that’s fit to print. I hope you’re all finding time to create, whether it’s music or poetry or painting or baking, what ever your chosen medium is. It’s good for you.

I used to be obsessed with stamps and wax seals! I haven’t used them in ages, but I know they didn’t look anything like these beautiful stamps! (Truthfully, I wouldn’t have expected anything less!) You and Cameron make a very good pair!

Thank you; I found a good supplier for brass items. It takes weeks to get them but they’re of markedly better quality than anything else I’ve found. I think if you’re going to make something, starting with quality materials ups your chances for a product worth keeping.

And thank you; we have fun together. Who ever buys our house next (not for sale I just mean eventually) will live between walls that have been filled with laughter and an unswerving creative spirit. Our happiness is an easy one.
