We decided to prepare for trial season though we aren’t done yet. All of the Jack Smith merch inspired me so I thought a commemorative cookie was in order!

We have not tried to convert a photo/image onto wood or metal before today. If you’ve been following along we have done a few photos on slate but every substrate is different so some trial and error is in order. Below are the steps we took to figure it out; if you just want to see the end result skip to part 4.

I had another pack of the Pillsbury sugar cookie dough which is doesn’t hold shape the way shortbread cookie dough from scratch does but I was so anxious to see, even with way too much spread, how the press would do that I tried it anyway.

Everyone knows you need to wash your cookies down with something good, whether it be hot or cold, so I couldn’t resist trying a more detailed photo of Jack on a stainless steel travel mug…and the result was pretty glorious!

And then, to complete today’s merriment, because we CAN and not because we SHOULD, we lasered the image from the cookie press directly onto a cookie, and I thought it was a hilarious choice for a substrate. I have to say that the cookie tasted awful. The laser gives them a really strong burnt smell and they end up tasting exactly how they smell. So stick with the cookie presses unless you’re just horsing around because I’m guessing this cookie tasted like burnt campfire wood…not that I’d ever go camping or take a bite out of firewood! I had to try it though????

So there you have it. I have more ideas about how to commemorate the yet to unfold historical events but I’m open to your ideas too! Take care out there!
