Epoxy resin on Acrylic, cell phone and tablet stands, collage quilt map

Greetings all! I hope everyone is having a great weekend! We have been busy this weekend trying some new things. Not everything I have below is in it’s finished state but at least you can see what we have been up to.

My sister and her family were enthusiastic about the gift box I sent them last week. It’s so fun to make something that’s totally bespoke for people who have everything. The bag tags, the snowflake rolling pin, the notebooks with pencils, the quilted coasters, and the serving tray were all appreciated but I felt badly not having sent anything for Johnny, Lia, or my sister’s husband John specifically/just for them. I had an idea to do iphone stands for watching content and/or FaceTime. Laura was so enamored of them that I ended up making one for everyone, the girls in acrylic and the boys in wood. I don’t have all of the photos yet because we decided to paint the engravings on the acrylic but here is a taste of what we made. More to follow.

The cut-I’m always impressed by the precision of the Rezo!
Not yet sanded and clear coated yet in this photo-they’re drying now

This is opaque white acrylic. We haven’t used anything opaque before.

Then we did a small epoxy pour on an acrylic iPhone stand for me. If anyone is wondering why there isn’t a stand for Cameron, it’s because he says he has one that he doesn’t use and doesn’t need another. He’s all about practicality! So here we are fumbling through our first attempt; I cut the camera off before we shot it with the heat gun. This is Total Boat long curing epoxy resin, a five to one formula. You have a generous 20 minutes to work with it and on a tiny project like this it’s really overkill.

Our first pour

I have a lava flow of ideas I want to try with epoxy. I can’t wait to see the result here; I’m sure we have plenty to learn. But hey, we aren’t letting inexperience stop us from trying!

And now we wait!

We did a second pour on this off camera. I can’t wait until tomorrow!

I almost forgot; I am preparing materials for a collage quilt pattern of a winter moon scene. I wanted to double it’s size but to scale so Cameron worked his magic and somehow got the drawing of the collage into the software and then “printed” it into cardboard so I could minimize waste in my fabric cuts. I’ll post a photo of that tomorrow. Diablo is awesome!

Okay, long post. Whew! There will be more to come on the finished products so stay tuned and thanks for following us.
