Intricate Cardstock Cutting

Good morning ??! We snuck in a bit of experimentation with cardstock cutting this morning. Cameron still doesn’t have all of the settings fine tuned so we expect our result to improve but this is our first go at it. Interestingly, the reverse side is completely free of char (char being the bain of paper and textile cutting) so the design is usable after a bit of exacto surgery. This design wasn’t made for the laser. I’m going to thicken the lines on the design and do another cut tonight. When I say “I”, I mean Cameron will run the laser but I will revise the design. What fun cards I can make with Diablo! Videos and stills below.

First cardstock cut-a lacy mandala fish!
Extrication and a lot to learn.
After a little exacto trimming, burn side up.
Reverse side-totally passable for use on a greeting card.

So the geometric snake design cut on white paper by Jonathan Frost is the ghost that haunts me! Such a delicate design cut on white paper with ZERO charring! That’s gold standard stuff and what we aspire to! Jonathan, if you’re out there, help a sister out! Teach me your ways!!!

Later today I hope to cut this same design into a knit fabric, 95/5 cotton/spandex, because if we can get a decent cut on knits with a design that’s this intricate I’m golden for cutting out apparel patterns. My hands are already breathing a sigh of relief! Have a great Tuesday everyone!

The detail on the fish is amazing! I can almost feel your excitement!

    1. Cameron’s Rezo Laser Build

It is a super fun toy for sure! We just have to hone in on settings once Cameron completes the calibration.

Hey! Been enjoying the blog! The snake was maximum power at 500mm/s. The point of that cut was to show off the potential speed of the Rezo and did have some chairing that wasn’t obvious in the video. Your cuts look great!

Hey Jonathan! I’m glad you’ve been enjoying the blog; I’m honored that you read it and watch our videos! You can probably tell I’m over the moon for Diablo!
Dude that snake, I freaking dream about cuts that gorgeous! Thank you for sharing! I would have never guessed you fired at 100 watts on paper! I just told Cameron; I’ll get him to try it on ours! Cameron says he doesn’t think he has the calibrations fine tuned enough just yet to hit max speed (it’s because I’m getting in the way of his progress because all I want to do is CUT-details be damned but I know they’re critical to optimize performance). That gantry is so freaking stable; I’m mesmerized by the accuracy and lie awake at night flooded with ideas! This is one incredible machine; thank you for architecting it and putting it out on the web! It’s life changing for me! All the best to you and yours!
