Exhaust and, drumroll…ACRYLIC!

Good Monday evening to you; I write with a few more feet of progress toward the finish line today! I hope you’ll excuse my exuberance over every step; the anticipation is building!

Here are some still photos of the exhaust mount Cameron made this weekend. He put the fan in it tonight and I have video of how strong it is. I had just finished 40 minutes on the Peloton and a 15 minute stretch when Cameron emerged from his office to announce that the big sheet of acrylic that goes on the top/lid of the laser will deliver SATURDAY!!! Woooo hoooo! Photos and video below; remember that you have to go to WordPress to see the videos.

The ducting isn’t in place yet, but that’s the plan this weekend. Check out the air flow in the video below.

First test
Ooops, it actually blows harder!
It fits!

So you guys know I’ve been fretting over the acrylic for the lid. It comes in a 4’ X 8’ sheet like plywood. Cameron will have to cut it to size IF it shows up on Saturday. Come on Home Depot, make my day! Once all of the aluminum and acrylic panels are installed we will have an enclosure to contain the smoke and debris from more interesting mediums like WOOD and FABRIC and ACRYLIC (like lions and tigers and bears, oh my!) that will be more entertaining than paper, but I have to say I’ve seen some folks cutting impressive designs out of paper so…

Have a great evening!

Wow, that’s quite a bit of progress! I don’t know if you’re familiar with Scherenschnitte, which is a German paper cutting, but I would think you’d be able to do that with the laser. I have always LOVED these, they are so beautiful and intricate (and command big prices in the shops we’ve been in!)

I looked that up and yes, if we could dial in the settings the laser can absolutely do that. I have a video I posted early on of Jonathan Frost’s paper cut; it was like lace. I’ll find it and send it to you.
