A Halloween Surprise

I know the blog has been quiet for a while, but trust that we have been very busy as usual. You are accustomed to reading about lasers or robot lawnmowers and their mega mansions that are being built for them and 3-D printers here, and there will be more of that but tonight I have to show you what has been taking up half of Cameron weekend time.

Pattern by Elizabeth Hartman

I know, I know, it is probably a stretch for most of you to believe that Cameron made this with me over the last month or so. But if you know anyone who quilts or if you have ever tried it yourself, you know that there’s quite a bit of engineering involved in it. I bought the pattern and the kit for this quilt months ago. We had both been doing solo projects for a couple of months when we began talking about how we needed to do another joint project because we do have a lot of fun working together. But he’s got the shop covered in 3-D printer build stuff and there really isn’t room Right now and hasn’t been for months to do yet another project in the basement, so I suggested half jokingly, that he joined me in making this Halloween quilt and to my surprise, he agreed. He has been a total trooper!

Cameron’s first ever quilt block

With every project we do I learn from Cameron. He was a complete newbie here, but he is a very fast learn, and of course, leverages all of his engineering skills against any project he takes on. And even though I was in the role of teacher this time, he still managed to teach me a few things in the process, which I love

In addition, in the midst of this project he expanded my longarm from 5 feet to ten feet, hauling the other half of the frame up two flights of stairs and toiling most of the day in that it had to be taken apart to add on the remainder of the frame.

In action
Done and it’s a tight squeeze
You get a better sense of it here

But fret not! He has made big progress on his 3D printer build and I’ll be filming that progress soon.
