Multilayered laser cut map

Greetings everyone! Are you ready for a fresh new year? I hope you’re all looking forward to good things and new creative adventures; I certainly am!

Our last laser project of 2023 is another experiment that has been pretty successful thanks to Cameron’s mad software skills and fantastic tips from Steve at Steve Makes Everything on YouTube. Check it out.

Street layer of map
The park

So when we laid the street layer on top of the park layer unpainted the park just faded into the rest of the map. So I decided to add color to distinguish the park from the rest of the map and create a kind of abstract rendering

of a park using three different hues of green.

90% complete
Still need to make the frame

Cameron will drag out the miter saw tomorrow to make the frame but I put two pieces of it in the photo so you could kind of see what it will look like in the end. I think the frame takes it from something to SOMETHING.

Cameron has been on a router bit buying spree; he’s getting into the whole three dimensional world of CNC routing. He’s working on something super practical at the moment; I’ll post it when he is done.

Thank you to everyone this year who has followed our journey of the build of the laser, cheered us on, pitched in with wisdom and experience when we hit bumps in the road, and who has stuck with us as we grow and learn as makers. We are both looking forward to new projects and challenges in the new year and will continue to share them here. Wishing you all robust health and an adventure packed 2024.
