Installed doorbell chime and a juice groove

Just a quick follow up from last night. Cameron hung the doorbell chime box. I like it so much better than what we had and am still deciding whether I want to stain/paint it or leave it natural.

Before photo of the cover we had. It’s yellowing as plastics do over time.

It’s always hard for me to judge whether or not something looks right when it’s out of context/stand alone so here is what it looks like in context with what’s below it in the foyer. I hope we can do the one upstairs this week.

In context

So we had to be up at o’dark-thirty this morning to take our car in for the state inspection. We are on west coast time here because so many of Cameron’s colleagues are at Blue’s HQ in Seattle so it’s rough, but we decided to use the additional time to cut the juice groove into the cutting board on the CNC. If you enjoy your current level of hearing turn the sound down on your device because man was that loud! It also went a lot faster than I thought it would and of course, I’m shooting and trying to vacuum at the same time so until I get a GoPro you’re stuck with my very unprofessional video.

Turn down your volume!

We learned a few things. One, we REALLY need an enclosure for this beast. Two, we need another set of ear protective headphones. Three, we used the wrong bit. We need a ball nose bit with downward spiraled flutes instead of the straight flutes on the one we used to minimize tear out, which you’ll see in the video below.

Next it will be sanded and I think we will carve a design into it and do an epoxy fill, plane it again, and see where we are. We might as well learn everything we can on our “teacher” board.

Have a great week everyone!
