Hey everybody, I still can’t edit my videos from yesterday and I’m not sure how useful they’ll be because they were all failures, but after a long day of substandard results we went searching for guidance on the Pro-Tec powder melting and discovered Steve Makes Everything. The guy knows his stuff! He uses a heat gun to melt the powder after the engraving is done on the wood (he does this with acrylic too) and man, I’ve gotta say it was a huge freaking relief. He refers to the laser settings to melt this powder Goldilocks style as MYTHICAL and as far as I’m concerned, he’s right! If we can get consistent, high quality melting with the heat gun it is absolutely the path of least resistance. Head on over to YouTube if you want to see how it went; in the mean time I’m going to try to learn video editing.

We are making a real product right now as I write this…seriously deep engrave on 1/2” plywood-shooting for 2.5 mm of depth, and I’ll post a photo here when it’s done.
Also, can you let me know if there is genuine interest in our fails? I’ve got about an hour of combined fail footage at different settings and focal point offsets. Sooo many combos. Or are you just interested in what actually worked?
